NOTICE OF ELECTION
TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF MESA UNIFIED SCHOveOL DISTRICT NO. 4 OF MARICOPA COUNTY, ARIZONA:
A special election will be held in Mesa Unified School District No. 4 of Maricopa County, Arizona (the “District”), on November 6, 2018 (“Election Day”).
Location of the Polling Places: The voter’s polling place will be shown on the mailing label of the informational report and sample ballot which is mailed to each household within the District that contains a registered elector at least thirty-five days prior to the election. The list of polling places is available from the School District and the County Elections Department, (602) 506-1511 or the polling location finder: https://recorder.maricopa.gov/pollingplace/.
The polls will open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m.
The purpose of the election is to permit the qualified electors of the District to vote on authorizing the District to:
Adopt a General Maintenance and Operation Budget that includes an amount of up to 15% in excess of the revenue control limit for the 2019/2020 fiscal year and for six subsequent years (subject to certain reductions provided by statute in years six and seven). The District’s current 10% budget override is by law required to be reduced by one-third in each of 2020/2021 and 2021/2022. The proposed 15% override budget will be approximately $20,480,580 higher than the District’s 2019/2020 alternate budget and the District’s secondary tax rate required to fund this amount is estimated to be $0.66 per one hundred dollars of net limited assessed property valuation for secondary property tax purposes. The total budget override amount is estimated to be $61,441,740 and would be funded by an estimated $1.98 tax rate. In future years the amount of the increase will be as provided by law.
In addition, a special bond election will be held in the District, on Election Day. The purpose of the election is to permit the qualified electors of the District to vote on authorizing the District to issue and sell not to exceed $300,000,000 principal amount of school improvement bonds of the District. The estimated average annual tax rate for the proposed bond authorization is $0.88 per $100 of net assessed valuation used for secondary property tax purposes.
